Speaking on his Get Lifted (20th Anniversary) album, Legend says, “I’m so thrilled to be celebrating 20 years of the album that introduced me to the world. Get Lifted has always meant so much to me and to so many of my fans and supporters. I’m so grateful for the career that this album launched. These last 20 years have taken me far beyond my wildest dreams.”
He continues, “Revisiting the original album and some of the unreleased songs from that era has been such a meaningful experience. Reinvigorating the music with fresh remixes and collaborations featuring some of my favorite artists makes this celebration even more special.”
Legend recorded Get Lifted from 2001-2004. The album was released on Legend’s 26th birthday, Dec. 28, 2004, via GOOD Music/Sony Music Urban/Columbia Records.
Get Lifted peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album, co-written entirely by Legend, spawned hits such as the Grammy-winning “Ordinary People” and “Used to Love U,” which peaked at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the 48th Grammy Awards, Legend was nominated for eight awards, taking home three trophies: Best R&B Album, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (“Ordinary People”) and Best New Artist.
Legend’s Get Lifted (20th Anniversary) follows his family-friendly album, My Favorite Dream, released in August. He worked on the sentimental album with renowned multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens.
My Favorite Dream is nominated for Best Children’s Music Album at the 67th Grammy Awards, which takes place Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, in Los Angeles.
Regarding his first nomination in this category, Legend wrote on Instagram: “My Favorite Dream holds a very special place in my heart. It’s my first children’s album, inspired by the heart of our family. Working alongside the incredibly gifted @sufjan brought this dream to life in ways I could have never imagined.”
At the same ceremony, Legend is also nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for his “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with Jacob Collier and Tori Kelly.
On Dec. 2, the EGOT winner will kick off A John Legend Christmas Tour in Highland, California. Legend will make stops in 12 U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle, and Atlanta, before concluding Dec. 21 in Hanover, Maryland.
