Nigerian star Wizkid has enlisted Jazmine Sullivan for his new song “Bad For You,” produced by P2J and T.Y. Jake.
Over a sun-kissed production, Wizkid and Sullivan sing about a toxic love that feels so good.
Sullivan sings in the opening chorus: “I just can’t imagine if, imagine if it wasn’t you / Love it when you’re grabbing it / Grab it like its made for you / Feelings been catching me, yeah, yeah / See, it’s what you want / I know that you’re bad for me, I’ll be bad for you too.”
Wizkid responds in verse one, singing: “This, this kind of music take you on a trip / This kind of music make you want to whine up your hips / This kind of music, make you, make you feel alright now / What’s your play, got you pulling panties to the side now.”
“Bad For You” appears on Wizkid’s sixth album, Morayo, which is out today (Nov. 22) via RCA Records. The album’s title derives from the Yoruba word meaning “I see joy.” The 16-track album serves as a tribute to his late mother, Jane Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.
Morayo includes additional features from alt-R&B star Brent Faiyaz (“Piece of My Heart”), Nigerian artist Asake (“Bad Girl”), French rapper Tiakola (“Après Minuit”), and French/Gabonese singer Anaïs Cardot (“Slow”).
Morayo is the follow-up to Wizkid’s 2022 album, More Love, Less Ego.
It’s been nearly three years since Jazmine Sullivan released a project. In 2022, she released Heaux Tales, Mo’ Tales: The Deluxe, an expanded version of her critically acclaimed 2021 album, Heaux Tales. The latter album was ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2021 list.
Heaux Tales included the hits “Pick Up Your Feelings,” “Girl Like Me” featuring H.E.R. and “On It” featuring Ari Lennox.
At the 64th Grammy Awards, Sullivan took home her first two Grammys for Best R&B Album (Heaux Tales) and Best R&B Performance (“Pick Up Your Feelings”).
Since her Heaux Tales era, Sullivan has collaborated with rapper Rick Ross (“Outlawz”), award-winning musician Adam Blackstone (“‘Round Midnight“), EGOT winner John Legend (“Love”) and more. Additionally, she contributed to soundtracks such as Arcane League of Legends (“Our Love“) and Till (“Stand Up“).
Earlier this fall, Sullivan joined Maxwell on his Serenade Tour, along with rising singer October London.
