Before Mereba releases her second album, The Breeze Grew a Fire, on Valentine’s Day, the singer has unveiled a new track, “Phone Me.”
She co-wrote and co-produced it with Sam Hoffman with production support from Rumeal Eggleston.
Speaking about “Phone Me,” Mereba explains, “This song is a sisterhood / friendship anthem dedicated to those classic bestie friendships that may have changed over the years, but are still cherished deeply. The experiences we shared helped us shape our journeys and have confidence in our destinies. I just wanted a fun, joyful song celebrating my chosen sisters and brothers.”
“Phone Me” arrives with a video, which Mereba co-directed with Luke Orlando. The cheerful clip features the Atlanta enjoying life with some of her friends by her side, with cameos from fellow singers India Shawn and Joyce Wrice.
“Phone Me” is the follow-up to “Counterfeit,” the lead single from The Breeze Grew a Fire.
“For this [album], it went back to me being on my own for the creation of a lot of the songs, and it was really important for me at this time of life because I was a little disconnected from the world, and from who I was,” Mereba explaind. “So I was trying to find my way back to myself first. What do I like? What do I want to hear? What do I want to say to people now?”
As indicated above, The Breeze Grew a Fire releases Feb. 14 via Secretly Canadian. The upcoming project is the follow-up to Mereba’s 2019 debut album, The Jungle Is The Only Way Out.
Mereba will support her new album on tour this spring. Her Breeze Grew a Fire Tour kicks off April 24 at Harlows Nightclub in Sacramento. From there, she will visit Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, and more. The tour will conclude May 21 at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.
