Eric Benét has joined forces with Keri Hilson for a new feel-good anthem, “Can’t Wait.”
Produced by Camper, “Can’t Wait” is a slickly constructed R&B-meets-disco groove that captures the anticipation of a night on the town with a significant other.
“I got my chains on / And my favorite cologne / The barber got me right,” Benét sings in the first verse. Hilson sings in verse two: “It’s like a theme song / Soon as you step inside, it’s on / They should have some champagne pourin’ / While the whole crowd sings along.”
Benét and Hilson harmonize in the chorus: “Can’t wait til I show up in there with you / You know what we came in this b–h to do / I know I ain’t got nothin’ else to prove.”
Speaking on his new collaboration, Benét shares, “It has always been a dream of mine to release music with Keri.”
He continues, “She’s an undeniably powerful songwriter, a phenomenal singer, and just a beautiful person inside and out. Being able to bring the vision of ‘Can’t Wait’ to life has been an incredible experience, and I am beyond excited to finally share this song with our fans!”
“Can’t Wait” is the lead single from Benét’s upcoming duets album, The Co-Star, set to release June 6 via his label JBR Creative Group. The Co-Star follows Benét’s 2024 EP, Duets.
The latter project included his No. 1 hit, “Something We Can Make Love To,” with Tamar Braxton, which topped Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, as well as “So Distracted” with Chanté Moore, currently at No. 7 on the same chart.
Regarding Duets, Benét told Rated R&B in a 2024 interview, “If I look back on my entire career, I think my duets were some of the most powerful songs. For the past 10 years, it’s always been in the back of my mind, like, ‘Yo, one of these days, I need to do a whole album where it’s all duets.’ This seems the perfect opportunity because I haven’t had a project out in like eight years.”
The Co-Star will also mark Benét’s first full-length project since his self-titled album, released in 2016. The album included the single “Sunshine,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
As for Hilson, the Grammy-nominated singer released her long-awaited album, We Need to Talk: Love, on April 18. Her first project in 15 years, preceded by the lead single “Bae,” will be released in three installments with themes of drama and redemption on the way.
