Leon Thomas‘ sophomore era is shaping up to be his biggest yet.
The Grammy-winner’s breakout single “Mutt” is barking up several Billboard charts.
In the latest issue (dated April 5), Thomas’ “Mutt (CB Remix)” featuring Chris Brown ascends to No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart in its second week. It’s Thomas’ first No. 1 on this chat and Brown’s seventh.
According to Chart Data, “Mutt” achieved its biggest U.S. unit sales week with 90K sold. His Chris Brown-assisted “Mutt (CB Remix)” accounts for nearly half of those sales at 41% (approximately 36,900).
Further, the standard version of “Mutt” tops R&B Streaming Songs in its fifth week, becoming Thomas’ first No. 1 on this chart as well.
Elsewhere on Billboard, the catchy tune leaps from No. 77 to No. 28 on the Hot 100, led by Kendrick Lamar and SZA‘s “Luther” for a sixth week. It earns Thomas his first top 40 hit on the popular singles chart. The D. Phelps and Freaky Rob-produced hit first appeared on the Hot 100 in early February, marking Thomas’ first entry.
“Mutt” is also No. 3 on Hot R&B songs (new peak), No. 5 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales (new peak), No. 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, No. 15 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (new peak), No. 22 on Streaming Songs (debut) and No. 24 on Digital Song Sales (debut).
Thomas’ album MUTT is also making noise on the charts. The project, released Sept. 27, 2024, hits a new peak on the Top R&B Albums chart at No. 10. It’s Thomas’ first top 10 album on this chart.
Additionally, MUTT debuts at No. 33 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 101, also a new peak.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Thomas confirmed his MUTT (Deluxe) album is in the works. It is expected to include additional collaborations with Kehlani, Big Sean, Halle Bailey and Stormzy.
“There [are] sides to me that I haven’t shown the world yet, so I’m spoon-feeding them. You need to hide the medicine in the candy. This deluxe is me stepping deeper into my purpose,” Thomas told the publication.
