Leon Thomas has joined forces with Chris Brown for a remix of his rising hit “Mutt.”
Brown appears in the second verse of the D. Phelps and Freaky Rob-produced track. “Keep on grabbin’ on my chains / You coming home with me tonight / Baby I’m a different breed / Not you’re typical / Oh, I love it when you make me chase / anything to make me stay Might just listen when you tell me stay,” he croons.
Thomas first previewed his “Mutt (CB Remix)” with Brown during a performance at The Garden in Dallas last weekend.
On Wednesday (March 19), Thomas posted a video on Instagram showing when he first heard Brown’s vocals on it during a rehearsal. “Yo, get this on camera,” Thomas said with excitement. “Chris Brown just sent me the joint. Yeah, we need to hear that loud as f––,” he added before blasting it through the venue speakers.

Thomas and Brown’s “Mutt (CB Remix)” is their first artist-to-artist collaboration. However, it’s not their first time working together musically. Thomas co-produced Zendaya’s 2016 single “Something New,” featuring Brown, and co-produced Brown’s “Emerald / Burgundy” featuring Juvenile and Juice J from 2019’s Indigo.
The original version of “Mutt” is the lead single to Thomas’ sophomore album, MUTT, released in September 2024 via Ty Dolla $ign‘s EZMNY Records and Motown.
The song earned Thomas his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early February. At the time of publication, it is No. 60 in its sixth week, with a No. 59 peak.
Brown is the second artist to team with Thomas for a remix of the track. In August, Thomas released a version featuring rapper Freddie Gibbs, which appears on MUTT. The album also features Ty Dolla $ign, Masego, Baby Rose, Wale, and Axl Folie.

“The album MUTT was created shortly after a significant break-up. During the relationship, my ex had given me a dog, and as I started working on the album in my new home, I began to notice similarities between my dog’s behavior and my own. My puppy had never received formal training, and his behavior inspired the song I was writing,” Thomas explained.
He added, “It made me think about the give and take in relationships, and the struggle for obedience. My dog is not a pure breed; he’s a mutt. While writing the title track for my album, I came up with the theme for this collection of songs. Even though my dog may sometimes make a mess in the house or bark loudly at the neighbors, I know he means well. This became a metaphor for not being a perfect partner but having good intentions.”
Thomas supported his second album on his headlining MUTT Tour last fall.
In other news, Thomas is working on his MUTT (Deluxe). According to Billboard, there are collaborations with Big Sean, Kehlani, Halle Bailey, and Stormzy in the works. He told the publication: “There [are] sides to me that I haven’t shown the world yet, so I’m spoon-feeding them. You need to hide the medicine in the candy. This deluxe is me stepping deeper into my purpose.”
