Canadian R&B singer-songwriter Savannah Ré‘s new single “Nine Lives” takes on multiple meanings.
On the surface, the Yogitheproducer and Kevin Kofo produced track is a play on the proverb “a cat has nine lives,” with Ré swapping the feline for her intimate parts: “This p––y got nine lives / This p––y gon’ bring life / That’s why he spin the block / That’s why I never trip.”
But beyond the wordplay, “Nine Lives” is also Ré’s fully realized story of resilience, where she embraces the growing pains of love and life.
“‘Nine Lives’ is an autobiography. It’s reclaiming the power of having gone through so many different phases and things that should’ve killed you, and coming out the other side bigger and better. This woman has so many layers and is stronger for it,” explains Ré.
“The word ‘p*ssy’ can be seen as something vulgar and objectifying, but it really should be revered with all the POWER it holds and life it brings. You gon’ have to try 8 times harder to break me.”

“Nine Lives” is Ré’s second song of 2025, following “Glory,” released in February. Both songs are expected to appear on Ré’s forthcoming project that will arrive later this year via Matrimony Records. It will mark her first offering since 2024’s Something/Someone New, a three-track set.
Before that, Ré released her No Weapons EP in 2022. The six-track project included the Dylan Sinclair-assisted single “Last One.” The guitar-driven track won Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards.
