Actor and singer Algee Smith has released his new single “Magic City” via 7 Scope Records.
Over a syrupy production, dripping with heavy 808s and hi-hat taps, Smith sings about a steamy night out at a gentlemen’s club with a special dancer.
“I’m too turnt up, come sit me down / I need you dancing / She turn around, look in my eyes / And take it off of me / Watch you relax, arch your back getting handsy,” he sings.
Speaking on his new single, Smith says, “‘Magic City’ is about a beautiful distraction. It’s a story of a man masking his pain with temporary pleasure or distractions. The club-like bounce and smooth melodies draw you in instantly, but then you realize this is actually a song about heartbreak.”

“Magic City,” produced by William Leong, is Smith’s third single of 2025. In March, he released “Sinners,” his first single in five years, and followed up in April with “Honest.” The latter track was produced by Khris Riddick-Tynes (SZA, Chris Brown).
All three songs will appear on Smith’s upcoming debut EP, which is slated for release this summer. According to press materials, the six-track project “offers a raw, honest exploration of love’s complexities, blending vulnerability with strength.”
Smith, who is known for his roles in The New Edition Story, Euphoria, and Judas and the Black Messiah, stars in the upcoming psychological thriller movie The Gates, alongside Mason Gooding and Keith Powers.
