Future R&B-pop star Chxrry (formerly Chxrry22) proves she is the standout, not the stand-in, on her new single “Main Character.”
The Believve (Tyla, Arin Ray) production rides on thunderous 808s and swarming synths. Lyrically, “Main Character” delivers a jolt of self-affirming confidence that will have everyone vying for the lead role.
“I’m the main character, bitch, f—k a background,” she chants on the club-ready anthem.
“Main Character” is Chxrry’s second single of 2025. On Feb. 21, the XO/Republic Records artist released her bop “Just Like Me,” also produced by Believve.
Earlier that month, Chxrry starred in The Weeknd‘s video for “Cry For Me” from his album Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Chxrry also appeared on Hurry Up Tomorrow on “Reflections Laughing,” featuring Travis Scott and Florence + The Machine.
In 2024, the Ethiopian-Canadian singer dropped her single “Poppin Out (Mistakes),” her first release since her Siren EP (2023).
Earlier this spring, Chxrry supported British R&B group FLO on the North American leg of their Access All Areas Tour. She opened her set each night with “Main Character,” giving fans a live preview before it dropped.
According to press materials, Chxrry’s debut album is slated to arrive later this year. In the meantime, the official video for “Main Character” is expected to premiere soon.
