R&B’s future star Chxrry22 has returned with her new single “Just Like Me” via XO Records/Republic Records.
The song’s production, helmed by Believve, evokes early 2000s R&B-pop flavor with its Neptunes-esque bounce. Lyrically, “Just Like Me” is bold, flirty and brims with confidence as Chxrry22 shows she can play the same games men try to pull on her.
“I like to make him feel like he a star / I like to make him feel like he in charge / What he think? That I don’t know he sellin’ dreams? / I guess I like em just like me,” she smirks.
“Just Like Me” comes on the heels of Chxrry22 starring in The Weeknd‘s “Cry For Me” music video. The black-and-white visual was released Feb. 11 and has already surpassed 10 million views on YouTube.
“Cry For Me” is lifted from The Weeknd’s latest album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Chxrry22 also appears on the album on “Reflections Laughing,” featuring Travis Scott and Florence + The Machine.
“Just Like Me” is the follow-up to “Poppin Out (Mistakes),” released in August 2024. The post-breakup anthem was also produced by Believve along with DaHeala.
In 2023, Chxrry22 released her second EP, Siren. The seven-track project featured Offset (“Favorite Girl”) and Vory (“Never Had This“). “This project wasn’t to be sad. I didn’t want it to be super emotional. I wanted it to be a declaration of confidence, dominance and fun. I want people to have a good time with it,” she explained.
Before that, she released her debut EP, The Other Side, in 2022. The project included standouts like “Wasteland,” “The Falls” and “Call Me.” Chxrry22 told Rated R&B, “When I sat down and made the project, I just took all of the rules out and was like, ‘Okay, I f——d this guy. I did this and that. Let me just write about it.’”
This spring, Chxrry22 will join British R&B group FLO on their Access All Areas Tour. The Canadian singer will support them on select dates of their North American leg, beginning April 8 in Austin. She will conclude her stint on May 1 in her hometown, Toronto.
