R&B sensation Mariah The Scientist has joined forces with Kali Uchis for her new single “Is It a Crime.”
The ethereal ballad, produced by Mat1k and Oliver Easton, explores the trial and error of love in front of spectators who view it through a negative lens. It underscores the patience and understanding required in a relationship to weather a rough patch, while unashamedly falling back in love — even when others fail to understand it.
Mariah The Scientist sings in the opening verse: “They were wrong about us / I hate the way they paint it I / I love the way that you walk and the air you breathe.”
Uchis appears in the second verse, singing, “‘Cause if loving me is jail, then you’re my prisoner / So let me throw away this key ’cause you won’t give me up.”
“Is It a Crime” follows Mariah The Scientist’s breakout hit “Burning Blue,” which was recently certified gold by the RIAA. The Jetski Purp and Nineteen85-produced track has sold over 500,000 equivalent units in the U.S.
Both songs will appear on her fourth album, Hearts Sold Separately, which releases Aug. 22 via Epic Records.

“Burning Blue” was released May 2 as the lead single from Mariah The Scientist’s anticipated album. The song debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her highest-charting single on the chart to date.
Since its debut, “Burning Blue” has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart and topped urban radio.
Hearts Sold Separately follows Mariah The Scientist’s 2023 album, To Be Eaten Alive. The latter project included collaborations with her partner Young Thug, Vory and 21 Savage.
As for Kali Uchis, the singer released her latest album, Sincerely, in May via Capitol Records. The 10-song album included the popular tracks such as “Sunshine & Rain…,” “ILYSMIH” and “All I Can Say.”
On Aug. 14, Uchis will launch The Sincerely Tour, with special guest Thee Sacred Souls.
