Ledisi pays homage to the Queen of the Blues, Dinah Washington, on her new album, For Dinah, available now via Listen Back Entertainment/Candid Records.

The album, co-produced by Ledisi and Christian McBride, consists of eight covers from Washington’s iconic catalog, including “This Bitter Earth,” “You’ve Got What It Takes” and “What A Difference A Day Made.”

For Dinah includes additional contributions from Gregory Porter and Paul Jackson, Jr.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the tribute album, Ledisi noted, “Before there was Aretha, there was Dinah. She deserves to be recognized in today’s music as well. So instead of asking me ‘Why Dinah?,’ you should be asking ‘Why not Dinah?'”

Ahead of releasing For Dinah, Ledisi shared “This Bitter Earth” as the album’s lead single. She shared, “This song is so reflective of any era, especially in such a chaotic time as this. People need music right now, and this song is a beautiful sentiment depicting a longing for life being filled with love. When I hear Dinah, I hear that longing. It’s a perfect way to announce my tribute to The Queen of The Blues.”

For Dinah is Ledisi’s second album of 2025, following The Crown, which was released April 25 via Listen Back/BMG. The album included singles such as “Love You Too” and “BLKWMN.”

Ledisi is no stranger to honoring artists who came before her. In 2021, she released Ledisi Sings Nina, which paid tribute to Nina Simone. The album earned a Grammy nod for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Grammy Awards.

In 2022, Ledisi starred as the Queen of Gospel, Mahalia Jackson, in Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story.

Ledisi is currently on tour promoting her two latest albums. She will launch the European/U.K. leg on Oct. 9 in London and will wrap Oct. 25 in Croatia.

In November, she will perform in several U.S. cities, including Dallas, Denver and Omaha, before returning to Europe in mid-January 2026.
