Lifetime has ordered a new film titled Single Black Female, directed by Shari Carpenter. Actress/singer Amber Riley will star in the thriller opposite Raven Goodwin (The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel), with a special appearance from K. Michelle.

Single Black Female, which will premiere in winter 2022, follows Monica (played by Goodwin) who is determined to move on with her life after losing her father and going through a bad breakup. She decides to pursue a new gig as a host on a daytime talk show. She hires an assistant, Simone (played by Riley), who ends up becoming a close friend, and next-door neighbor. Simone eventually becomes completely immersed in Monica’s life.

Beneath Simone’s sweet facade lies a dark secret, which over time, slowly reveals itself. When Monica notices Simone’s true colors she cuts her off, but Simone has wicked plans to take over Monica’s life for good.

As for K. Michelle’s role, there aren’t many details available at this time.

Speaking of the Memphis-born singer, she recently confirmed that her next R&B album is finished. Her highly-awaited country album appears to still be in the works.

“I’m very excited about this because country artists are reaching out to me. I received a call from Billy Ray Cyrus, who is really supportive,” she told Rated R&B’s Antwane Folk in a 2020 interview.

“I’m about to do something different with this country album. I promise you. It’s time. You’re not ready for what’s about to happen. If you think I’m good on my other albums [singing country], wait until you hear my voice and where it’s supposed to be.”

K. Michelle wasn’t the only cast member to drop a project in 2020. Riley released her debut EP, RILEY, which is her stage name.

In an interview with Rated R&B, Riley shared how she felt about finally releasing her project. “I feel relieved because everybody’s been cussing me out for ten years about it,” she said. “I almost feel like an evolution has happened. Like just within me, giving people another side of me and showing them another talent that they probably weren’t either expecting or used to or aren’t used to from me.”

The six-song set includes a feature with BJ the Chicago Kid.
