Aiyana-Lee’s debut project, Wednesday’s Child (Side A), is proof that roof-raising vocals still exist.
The emerging singer-songwriter is so devoted to good singing that it constitutes even better songs, one being “Love You Later.”
Produced by Grammy-winning musician Neff-U, the strict pop-soul tune is not the kind of response a man wants to hear when he’s willing to settle down.
But Aiyana-Lee is not about to budge and compromise just because he’s interested in making something work.
Much like everything on the EP, “Rich Kids” has a throwback sound, gaining most of her vocal confidence in knowing she doesn’t belong in the circle of square fiends.
Though Aiyana-Lee is the source of their amusement right now, she is confident that she’ll get the last laugh when her pockets start eating more cheesecake.
“Gangster of Love” is getting a fair amount of airplay on R&B radio, earning her first top 10 entry. It’s the perfect example of this colloquialism: “don’t start none, won’t be none.”
Ruthless to any sort of relationship mishap, Aiyana-Lee suggests suitors should think twice before doing her like other chicks. It could get ugly.
“We’re all dealt a tough hand in life, no matter who we are. Going through troubled times and being an outcast, feeling like the world is out to get you, is something we can all relate to,” said Aiyanna-Lee in a statement about the story of the EP.
All in all, Wednesday’s Child (Side A) should be a launching pad for Aiyana-Lee to continue touching listeners across the world on many levels.
Of course, it helps that the seven songs will be included on her full-length album, Wednesday’s Child, slated for release later this year.
