Following up an album as lovely as 2019’s Little Ghost is not easy. Yet, feel free to exhale because Moonchild delivered on their latest project, Starfruit.
An album that recalls the neo-soul stylings, though making it sound progressively stronger, Starfruit gives the trio room to show the world why they’re a hidden gem.
Collaborations aren’t hard to find on Starfruit. The Lalah Hathaway pairing (“Tell Him”) is a match made in heaven, as is the case with “Get By” featuring Tank and the Bangas.
It has a sort of techno-soul flair that coasts beneath the frontwomen of both groups, serving as a reminder to carry on even when your head is in the clouds.
The feature-less tracks are just as good. The lead single, “Too Good,” comes at the expense of not believing this new love interest is the best thing since sliced bread.
“What You Wanted” is so aptly titled, acting as an unintentional double entendre for a must-spin song and a warning not to bite off more than you can chew.
Moonchild is going on a world tour in support of Starfruit, visiting multiple cities across North America this spring.
In September, they travel overseas for the European leg of the trek. Tickets are available on their official website.
