Khalid has launched a new era. The El Paso, Texas, native has released a new song titled “Last Call,” and it’s one you’ll likely hear at approaching spring flings.

Co-written by Khalid and Jamil Chammas, “Last Call” is underlined by familiar pop elements such as tasteful guitar licks, which are all courtesy of producer Digi.

Khalid metaphorically beckons a partner to the middle of a dance floor to iron out the next phase of their budding relationship. He knows that he can supply the “finer things” if this interest can remain sincere when connecting the dots to his heart.

“If this is worth it, I’m guessing that we’ll both find out in the end / You show me purpose and give me a presence / That I’ve ever met in this world full of hatred / Somehow, I feel your innocence / I’ll be patient, impatient,” he sings.

“Last Call” deserves to be the strong return hit for Khalid, perfecting his knack for creating tunes for his most beloved genre: pop. The track, his first of the new year and likely the focus track for Everything Is Changing, follows his previous EP Scenic Drive, which we reviewed.

Accented in endless R&B vibes, Scenic Drive proved to be a star-studded joyride that was filled with memorable moments. Alicia Keys, 6LACK, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, Smino and Kiana Ledé were among the many who had a guest spot.

As Khalid continues work on his third studio album, Everything Is Changing, he salutes his debut album, American Teen, which celebrated its fifth anniversary on March 3.

His first album was just certified 4x multi-platinum by the RIAA. Meanwhile, its big single “Location” was crowned the 75th song in history to achieve diamond status, signifying sales of more than 10 million equivalent units sold.

Other Khalid songs were recently upped in certification levels as well.

Again on Everything Is Changing, Khalid’s follow-up to 2019’s Free Spirit, was first introduced last summer with the single “New Normal.”
