R&B heartthrob Josh Levi has released a visual for his single “Birthday Dance.”
The video, directed by No Love Out West, highlights Levi’s dance skills, from hard-hitting choreography with a troupe to harmonious moves with his leading lady, Janna Osborne. Towards the end of the clip, everyone celebrates with a bit of cake-smashing and laughs.
“Birthday Dance” is lifted from Levi’s DISC TWO (SCRATCHED UP), an expanded version of his EP, released in May 2023 via Issa Rae’s Raedio/Atlantic Records.
Levi explained to Rated R&B in an interview: “‘Birthday Dance’ is an excuse to feel good without having a reason. It’s something you don’t have to think hard about and forces you to smile and move. It’s the gratitude of having another day of life and a good time with people you enjoy.”
DISC TWO was released a year after the standard version. Levi said the timing was intentional.
“I’m so appreciative and happy to anyone who likes anything from DISC TWO because I put so much of myself into that EP. I did as much content and live performances for it as I could. These new songs were a continuation of that,” Levi told Rated R&B. “I wasn’t going to let it breathe without giving something new. I was already going to release new music, but I figured it was an opportunity to extend that world I was already in with people.”
Levi will join rap duo Flyana Boss on the second leg of their The Bosstanical Garden Tour, kicking off March 10 in his hometown, Houston, Texas. The nine-city tour will make additional stops in Dallas, Salt Lake City, Seattle and more before concluding March 28 in Los Angeles, California.
