Ciara has released Goodies (20th Anniversary), a special deluxe edition of her iconic debut album.

The expanded set, available on vinyl and digitally, includes all the songs from the original album (excluding “Next To You”) plus three bonus tracks.

The extra songs are the rarities “Crazy” and “Represent Me,” and a dance remix of “Goodies” by Dipha Barus.

“Crazy” and “Represent Me” are two gems that previously appeared as bonus tracks on Goodies: The Videos & More DVD.

On “Crazy,” co-written by Johntá Austin — who also contributed to three other songs on the album — Ciara finds herself at a crossroads, contemplating leaving a toxic lover. The song unpacks the messiness of love — your brain telling you it’s time to go, but your heart wants to stay.

She sings in the conflicting chorus: “It’s crazy, tell me how come / Something I really want and something I love is so bad for / I can’t explain it, it’s just like a bad habit / I can’t shake it.”

“Represent Me” is a laid-back groove that is a love letter to those who she counts on for support. The song, produced by Ollie Wood, underscores the importance of fostering a community and staying true to core values.

“I want my hood to represent me / I want you to represent me / To all my girls that represent me / Around the world to represent me / I want love to represent me / I want us to represent me / To all my girls that represent me / Around the world to represent me,” she sings in the chorus.

Goodies was released on Sept. 28, 2004, via LaFace Records. The album included the lead single, “Goodies,” featuring rapper Petey Pablo. The Lil Jon-produced track, co-written by Sean Garrett, spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The crunk&b song made history as the chart’s longest-running No. 1 debut single by a female artist since 1977. It’s worth noting Ciara accomplished this feat amid Usher‘s 2004 domination with Confessions, where his singles collectively occupied the No. 1 spot for 28 weeks.

Today (Sept. 27), Ciara and Vevo released a footnotes version of the “Goodies” video, which includes tidbits that her beloved C-Squad, the name of her fanbase, should enjoy.

One fun fact is Ciara and Garrett originally wrote “Goodies” as a riff on the children’s song “Who Took The Cookie?” While Lil Jon liked the song, he wasn’t a fan of the original title (“Cookies”). So, they simply replaced “Cookies” with “Goodies.”

Circling back to the album Goodies, it also included the Jazze Pha-produced hit “1, 2 Step” featuring Missy Elliott and the Ludacris-assisted “Oh,” produced by Dre & Vidal. Ciara concluded the era with her emotional ballad “And I,” which she co-wrote with the song’s producer, Adonis Shropshire.

Goodies debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, with 125,000 pure copies sold in the first week. Elsewhere on Billboard, both “1, 2 Step” and “Oh” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

In June, Ciara landed new RIAA certifications for her Goodies era. The album was certified 4x platinum with four million equivalent units sold in the U.S., her highest-certified album to date. Here’s a breakdown of the rest of her certifications (as of Sept. 27, 2024):

  • “1, 2 Step” featuring Missy Elliott, 5x platinum (five million equivalent units sold)
  • “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo, 3x platinum (three million equivalent units sold)
  • “Oh” featuring Ludacris, 2x platinum (two million equivalent units sold)
  • “And I,” gold (500,000 equivalent units sold)

Her debut era aside, Ciara released her new single “Wassup” featuring Busta Rhymes today (Sept. 27). It’s the follow-up to her BossMan Dlow-assisted banger “Run It Up.” It’s unclear if these two songs will appear on a future project.
