Singer-songwriter Kevin Ross has released his new EP, Love Uptempo, Vol. 1, via Art Society Music Group/EMPIRE.
The five-track set was preceded by “Love In The Middle,” which Ross co-produced with Louis York (Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony), and “Back 4 More.”
Among the EP’s fresh cuts is “Spin,” a smooth fusion of R&B and Afrobeats where Ross flirtaciously sings, “You gon’ make me beep-beep in the whip, whip / Pull you over like a sheriff / You got traffic at attention.”
“This project is much deeper than love…it’s based on time,” says Ross. “Time is the most valuable currency we have in this human experience. Time we can kill, times we regret, time well spent, and most times, we are bound to forget. Time is tempo. The question is… at what pace are you living your life?”
In January, Ross released “Love In The Middle” as the lead single to Love Uptempo. At the time of this writing, it is No. 14 on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.
“It was an absolute pleasure working on with Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony,” Ross told Rated R&B. “We wrote, produced, and recorded it in Nashville. It’s something about that city that sparks creative freedom. I believe it’s the perfect time for that record.”
Kelly added, “It’s crazy how easy it was to work with Kevin in the studio. The chemistry was just there immediately. He knows what he’s doing, he knows his voice, he knows R&B music in a real way. ‘Love In The Middle’ is the magic you get when three friends lock-in to make a timeless love song that the people can still dance and sing along to forever.”
Harmony noted, “It’s always a pleasure when the artist knows who they are and what direction they want to go in musically. Kevin knew exactly where he wanted to go so we explored and created something unforgettable. ‘Love In The Middle’ is a special one.”
Love Uptempo, Vol. 1 is the follow-up to Ross’ 2023 EPs Midnight Microdose, Vol. 1 and Midnight Microdose, Vol. 2.
Ross will support his new project on his upcoming tour that starts April 5 in Atlanta.
