Kelly Rowland Talks Almost Giving Up Recording and Direction of New Album

Kelly Rowland is just THAT chick. She flaunts her mind-altering persona in Vogue Australia’s August 2018 issue.

In the feature-length story, Rowland speaks on a number of topics from taping The Voice Australia, such as giving up fish and why meditation helps her find peace of mind. “It’s awesome. I do it every other day, first thing in the morning or if I feel like I’m overwhelmed or anxious and I have to bring it all ‘in’ because that means I’m putting too much energy out and not giving myself anything,” she said to the acclaimed publication.

Most importantly, the singer dished on her new album, which will mark her first release since 2013’s Talk a Good Game. She chronicled the five-year album delay, commenting the first year of her hiatus was time to live under the radar. The following year Rowland “was thinking about pulling back from recording” but decided not to give up. “I still wanted to record,” she said.

She continued, “I still felt like I was missing something. The third year just came and left so fast. The fourth year I said: ‘I have to get to work’ and now I’m ready to release some music! I felt like I wasted so much time, and it was my husband who actually called me out on it. He said: ‘Babe, as great as those records were, I think you were nervous, you got gun-shy’, and when he said that it was like boom, a gong went off.”

Although Rowland has been caught in the studio with DJ Camper, she still has more to say — at least about her mother who died during her hiatus. “The record about my mother I have yet to put into words, and it will be the hardest record I will ever write …”

For her new album, Rowland plans to sing “about love, loss and gain and whether it’s professional or with family or whatever, it’s just honest. I had no choice but to be honest and authentic with this record: it’s about friendship and marriage.”

With all the rising talent in music, Rowland is eager to bring them aboard for her untitled fifth studio album. “I really enjoy getting new blood. And some have been in the game a long time. They are bringing fire. Serious fire. I’ve been working with Syd from The Internet on one record.”

We cannot wait to hear the sonic direction of Kelly’s much-anticipated album.

The August issue is now on newsstands.
