New year, new label. Talented singer Kevin Ross has ended his recording contract with the iconic Motown Records.

“Ownership means a lot more to me at this stage in my life,” Ross said in a press statement. “I’m grateful for the experience but it was time to move on.”

Ross was signed to Motown since 2014. While at the label, he released three EPs: Dialogue in the Grey (2014), Long Song Away, (2016) and Drive (2017) and his debut album, The Awakening, in 2017.

While it was a bittersweet decision, Ross is focused on what’s next — his music. The Washington, D.C.-born artist recently launched his independent label Art Society Music Group (ASMG). Fans won’t have to wait too long for Ross to drop new music. He plans to release his sophomore album, Audacity, in March.

“Creating Audacity has been an exciting process for me,” Ross shared. “I really followed my instincts and let the music guide me the whole way. This album has a lot more grit to it. It introduces new sides of me while still reinforcing the essence of my art.”

The album’s lead single “Thing Called Loved” is scheduled to release on February 8.
