JoJo is back. The seasoned artist has returned with her brand new single titled Joanna.
The highly personal track, produced by Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, finds JoJo in deep thought as she deals with some of her insecurities she developed over the years.
“You should date somebody famous / That’ll probably put you on the A-list / That’ll probably get you on them playlists / Stop you being so damn underrated, oh / What is goin’ on, Joanna,” she sings on the two-minute track.
The accompanying video is set to premiere today at noon on YouTube.
“Joanna” is JoJo’s first solo single since 2016, when she dropped her Mad Love album. In a 2018 interview, JoJo shared her vision for her next album. “I want to write in a way to where I’m being completely transparent to where it speaks particularly to young women,” she said. “I want it to be hard. I want beats to be hard and I want the content to be real. I have nothing to hide and I just want to be as raw as possible.”
JoJo has been keeping busy since dropping Mad Love. Last year, she re-recorded her first two albums JoJo and The High Road.
Most recently, her duet with PJ Morton, “Say So,” cracked the top 10 at on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. It is her first time appearing on this chart format.
