How long will it be before Phony Ppl’s “Fkn Around” leads the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart? It could be very soon with the help of their DJ Cuppy-assisted remix that is now available on streaming platforms.
With its lyrically brilliance still intact, Cuppy turns “Fkn Around” into a windows-down anthem with her sunny exterior of melodic house and Afrobeats.
The updated version of the out-of-sight groove follows the unexpected top 10 radio single success of the original cut. Since invading the top 10 realm on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in late-April, “Fkn Around” has made it to the No. 7 and is still growing in radio spins.
In a recent interview with Rated R&B, the left-field band shared details on the direction of their feature-heavy follow-up to their acclaimed 2018 album mō’zā-ik.
“We’re definitely looking at a more uptempo and upscale energy — a little more movement and brighter colors towards this project versus the other ones,” bassist Bari told the publication.
Percussionist Maffyuu continued, “I know jumping into this project one thing that we definitely wanted to zero in on was more movement from top to bottom. Not all the tracks are going to be just straight fall on the floor and shake your butt stuff, but we wanted to definitely tap into the more groovy side that we all possess. We’ve been creating songs with that in mind to get the people moving and to balance the catalog out.”
