Childish Gambino is a creative genesis. He brings his latest vision to life in a star-studded animated video for his single “Feels Like Summer.”
Co-directed by Ivan Dixon and Greg Sharp, the cartoon visual “symbolizes Gambino leaving the rap community,” according to Genius.
The animated clip follows a cartoon version of Gambino taking a stroll through his famed neighborhood. On his walk, he encounters a few illustrated members of the entertainment business enjoying the summer heat. Azealia Banks sits in a tree. The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign and Frank Ocean play tug of war. Michelle Obama comforts Kanye West. Beyoncé remembers Fredo Santana. Janelle Monáe and SZA skateboard.
Near the end of the video, Gambino shines a light on two fallen music icon’s — Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.
“Feels Like Summer,” is one of two summer-themed songs Gambino released in July. Both songs are expected to appear on Gambino’s forthcoming album that will release later this year on Wolf+Rothstein/RCA Records.
On September 6, Gambino will launch his North American fall tour in Atlanta with special guest Rae Sremmurd.
