It’s Normani season. While the former Fifth Harmony member enjoys the success of her debut single “Love Lies,” she teams up with Calvin Harris for two new songs — “Checklist” and “Slow Down.”
On “Checklist,” which features a guest verse from Wizkid, Normani gets flirtacious over an afrobeat-inspired production. “Baby, you’re a blessing wit’ it on / Come teach me a lesson wit’ it on / Yeah, I see you,” she sings on the upbeat track.
For “Slow Down,” Normani tapped singer/songwriter Jessie Reyez to co-write the track. The two collaborated together on Reyez’ “Body Count (Remix)” with Kehlani. “Everybody, everybody slow down / Everybody be on the low down / And it’s cool if you wanna be slow, no, no doubt / Remember that night in your old house? / Remember that time when you broke down? / Seeing that you’re happy, that you dropped that chain / No I’m not, I’m not the one to hold down,” Normani sings in the first verse.
The 22-year-old singer went to her Instagram to express her excitement about her two new records. “Throughout the process of working on my album I have gotten the opportunity to get in the room with some of the most talented human beings everrrrr like ever ever !!!! thank you so much to the genius @calvinharris and to the magic behind these fyeee records @whereisstarrah @jessiereyez @wizkidayo love y’all billions. YAAAAY MUSIC as my A&R @tunji would say #NormaniXCalvinHarris,” she wrote.
Tomorrow night (Oct. 23), Normani will perform at Tidal X in Brooklyn alongside Lil’ Wayne, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Anderson .Paak, Teyana Taylor and more.
Normani has been in the studio cooking up her debut solo album, which will release on Keep Cool/RCA Records. Earlier this year, she revealed her plans to work with Missy Elliott.
