Brian McKnight is playing no games this era. A week after premiering his new love song “When I’m Gone,” the R&B vet has released the corresponding video.
The clip takes viewers behind-the-scenes of a concert that McKnight is headlining. As he rehearses and provides directions to crew on the show logistics, he can’t help but fantasize about being in the arms of his lover. Immediately after the concert ends, he jumps on FaceTime to let his wife know he’s on the way home.
On the strength of only a weekend of radio airplay, “When I’m Gone” debuted at No. 27 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart this week. The tender jam is holding down the top 30 on urban Adult Contemporary radio.
“When I’m Gone,” and “42 (Grown Up Tipsy)” will appear on his upcoming 14th studio album. It will serve as a follow-up to 2017’s Genius.
