Brian McKnight has released his 13th studio album, Genesis. The 12-track project includes McKnight’s singles “Forever” and “I Want You.”
McKnight said his goal for this album was “to figure out how to bridge that gap between the music we made in the ’90s and trying to make modern music, without sounding 21.”
He continued, “I’m 48. I can’t make a record that sounds like a Drake record, even if I wanted to. We as the older group of guys have to stay true to ourselves. I’m just gonna make great music.”
Overall, Genesis is a cohesive body of work that is grounded in traditional R&B with slight references to today’s sound. Some of the standout tracks include “I Want You,” “10 Million Stars,” “Forever” and the title track.
Genesis is the follow-up to 2016’s More than Words.
