PJ Morton and his Morton Records imprint have announced a two-album deal with Tyscot Music & Entertainment, the oldest operating African-American gospel music recording label.
The two projects will be issued through Morton’s newly-launched inspiration division. The debut album for Morton Records signee Josiah “Jojo” Martin is on the front line of the partnership, with his radio single expected to impact target gospel formats later this year.
Following the project rollout for Martin, Morton Inspiration will release a star-studded compilation titled The Gospel According to PJ. The work will include re-imagined versions of hits songs that Morton penned for music’s elite over the years.
“I’m very excited about the new partnership between Morton Inspiration and Tyscot Records,” shared PJ Morton in a press statement. “I’ve seen Tyscot do an amazing job in gospel music for many years. When I decided to produce a gospel compilation and sign a gospel artist Jojo Martin, I knew that I needed a strong partner that could successfully move in that space. There was no better fit for us.”
Along with his inspirational album plans, Morton will capture his live show at the 2019 Essence Festival on record for a mysterious new project that will feature Luke James, JoJo, The Hamiltones, Mia X and Pell.
On April 29, Morton is headed on tour with The Amours for Keys and a Mic Acoustic Tour. The 10-city run will kick off in St. Louis.
In August, Morton will play at the Outside Lands Festival alongside side Childish Gambino, Leon Bridges, Ella Mai, Alina Baraz, Cautious Clay, and more.
