Two months after premiering her compelling new single “Woman,” Syleena Johnson has released the Chris Brann-directed video.
Inspired by the Black Panthers movement, Johnson stars as a fierce leader of a protest for female empowerment. Walking conviction and purpose, the ladies, dressed in all-black attire march to have their well-outlined agenda on protection and respect to be heard.
“As an artist, my superpower is to be able to use my artistry to evoke emotion and change,” said Johnson. “With what women have endured in this world, I believe this record will empower and inspire and hopefully change a few perspectives.”
“Woman” is the first single from Johnson’s 11th studio album of the same title. The album is Johnson’s first album since 2017’s Rebirth of Soul. The LP contained 10 amazing covers, including Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools,” and “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James.
