The heat is on for Steve Lacy’s debut album, Apollo XXI, which drops this Friday (May 24). In anticipation for his first full-length release, the Internet’s guitarist has unleashed a new groove called “Playground.”
Sonically brighter different than his dark, lead single “N Side,” Lacy uses a mixture of lax and airy vocals to open up to his lover about their unpredictable love stunts.
On top of sharing “Playground” with fans, Lacy has dropped a tongue-swapping visual for part one of the album’s final track, “Outro Freestyle.”
Apollo XXI, an album he created over a two-year span, will feature a guest appearance from DAISY. The latter artist will appear on the nine-minute track Lacy discussed in his feature story with i-D.
“It was kinda like a middle finger to the people who were like, you can’t make this song longer than three minutes and I was like alright I’ll give you nine minutes, how’s that?” Lacy revealed to the publication.
He continued, “It’s basically my journey, my sexuality. But in a very fun and witty way, it’s not really that serious, it’s not super sad. I think it’s my journey, it’s an expression of how I feel right now.”
