Queen Naija doesn’t mind going through the motions with her man. On her new finger-snapping bop “Away from You,” the singer notes that even though her lover drives her up a wall, she can’t fathom being without him by her side.
“I’m so mad that I can’t stay mad at you / Despite all the back and forth we do / I just want to let you know that I’m willing to ride, whether you wrong or right,” Naija sings.
“Away From You” is the first taste of music from Naija this year. The song is also a lighter direction than her previous kiss-off anthems “Medicine” and “Karma,” which earned her platinum plaques in April.
While some of her fans have expressed that she let them down with “Away from You,” Naija responded on Twitter by saying, “Never put me in a box, that’s how you get disappointed.” She also tells them to “stay tuned for the next single.”
On June 20, Naija will join Mary J. Blige, H.E.R. and Summer Walker to perform at BET’s curated show titled Ladies (U)nite! in Los Angeles. The concert is the kickoff event for the 2019 BET Experience.
