Madame Tussauds Las Vegas has shown how much they care for Aaliyah. Just days before family and friends celebrate the life of the late icon on the 18th anniversary of her death, the famous museum unveils their wax impression of her.
The life-size wax figure was inspired by Aaliyah’s shimmery ensemble in the video for “Try Again.” The song was lifted from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack. It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2000.
Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton was a part of the big reveal at the ceremony on Wednesday night (Aug. 21).
“I was involved in the process from the inception of the project,” he told Vibe. “The team at Madame Tussauds welcomed a collaborative effort in choosing the pose and look of my sister’s figure. They made sure my mother and I were comfortable and supported through an amazing but understandably emotional process.”
Adam Morey, studios manager at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas, explained why he and his team decided to remake the “Try Again” get-up.
“The look has the sexy, edgy, timeless vibe we try to imbue in the Las Vegas attraction within all our creative choices,” he shared.
He added, “Mining popular culture as only Madame Tussauds can, our desire to honor Aaliyah and the look in this way was only confirmed as we see today’s Hollywood stars like KeKe Palmer, Kim Kardashian, Zendaya, also paying homage by recreating their own favorite moments of the Princess of R&B.”
