As the clock continues to tick down for Raphael Saadiq’s Jimmy Lee album, the legendary musician premieres another new track.
“So Ready” is a melding groove of rich, colorful sounds that serve a striking resemblance to the adventurous arrangements of Stevie Wonder. Saadiq utilizes its up-beat complex to lament past hurt that he’s caused on a special lady.
Compared to Jimmy Lee’s somber lead single “Something Keeps Calling” and its even darker follow-up “Glory to the Veins,” his third offering is refreshingly beautiful to hear as his album’s August 23 arrival date draws near.
His Rob Bacon-assisted tune, which launched his new era in June, became his first top 10 urban radio hit since “Never Give You Up” featuring Stevie Wonder and CJ Hilton in 2009.
Saadiq plans to thrill audiences across the nation on his promotional tour, which kicks off on the same date his album comes out. He stops in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre for night one.
