In what seems like a hot-minute since we last heard from Jacob Banks, the baritone soulman returns with a cover of “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” by Alicia Keys.
The purity in Banks’ heavy, vocal expression cannot be ignored. In fact, his passionate performance could very well cause a listener to get goosebumps.
Produced by his friend and collaborator Sillkey, Banks revealed he recorded his version of Keys hit song three years ago.
“This song kept me company throughout my early years in university,” Banks explained. “I’ve always loved the song and with everything that’s happening and a recent loss in my life the song came back to me, so I wanted to share with my friends in case you guys find something you need in there like I did.”
Banks also accompanied his stirring rendition of “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” with a Savannah Setten-directed visual. Watch the video above.
This remake leaves fans hankering for new tunes from Banks, who hasn’t released a solo track since 2019’s “Every Age.”
In 2018, Banks released his acclaimed album Village. The LP appealed to Rated R&B, making our top 25 R&B albums of 2018 list.
