Melody Thornton has returned with her new single “Phoenix Rise.” On the Drew Scott-produced ballad, Thornton sends a message of hope during a time of uncertainty.
Thornton also released an accompanying video, directed by Aramis Duran. The video shows past footage from the civil rights movement protests and footage from today’s Black Lives Matter protests. In between cuts, Thornton is seen singing the heartfelt song in the dark with a beam of light.
“Phoenix Rise” is lifted from Thornton’s upcoming EP, Lioness Eyes, which is set to drop on August 7. Thornton shared the meaning behind the coming-of-age project in a press release.
“It’s the journey from innocence to experience,” said Thornton. “A look in the eyes that clearly indicates she’s come to know her power in the world.”
