Mariah Carey doesn’t rest.
After claiming the number spot on The New York Times bestseller list for The Meaning of Mariah Carey, and thrilling the lives of her Lambily with The Rarities, the global R&B superstar picks up her #MC30 campaign where she left off with four more vaulted EPs.
This week’s re-launch to the celebratory music series is a luminous look at Carey’s Rainbow album. The elusive diva lightens the hearts of fans with alternative versions of “Heartbreaker,” “Can’t Take That Away (Mariah’s Theme),” the Joe and 98 Degrees-assisted “Thank God I Found You,” and the Phil Collins remake of “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now).”
What makes this #MC30 a moment is that the original version of the former track, which featured Jay-Z, peaked at the top of the Hot 100 for the tracking week of October 9 in 1999. It became Carey’s 14th chart leader at the time.
Since kicking off the #MC30 campaign, Carey has revisited beloved albums and tracks from different eras, from Butterfly to Daydream to Music Box.
Last month, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the 1995 hit “Fantasy” with a special editorial on its seamless merge of R&B/hip-hop. Revisit it here.
