R&B acts will receive their flowers at the 2020 Black Music Honors; this year’s honorees include En Vogue and Deborah Cox.
En Vogue, now a trio, will be awarded with the Urban Music Icon Award. The timing of this feat is special for the legendary R&B group. In April, they celebrated the 30th anniversary of their critically-acclaimed debut album, Born to Sing, which included their hit single “Hold On.”
Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Deborah Cox will receive the Entertainer Icon Award. “What a journey this has been and such a beautiful way to celebrate 25 years in the business,” Cox tweeted. “I’m grateful for this recognition and all of your love and support over the years.”
Don Jackson, founder and executive producer of the Black Music Honors, said in a press release, “I am extremely excited about our 5th Annual 2020 Black Music Honors television special and our legendary awardees. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for us to stay committed to producing The Black Music Honors as a means of celebrating music icons who are often overlooked in receiving their much-deserved recognition.”
Musiq Soulchild, RL, Tweet, Raheem DeVaughn, MAJOR. and June’s Diary are among the artists set to perform at the ceremony.
Hosted by Rickey Smiley, the 2020 Black Music Honors will air on Saturday, November 21 at 12 p.m. ET on Bounce TV.
