Gabby Zike, one-fifth of R&B group June’s Diary, has released her debut mixtape titled Beachroom.
All eight songs on the project were co-written by Zike, while producers Kush Oxford and OB1 handled controls on the mixtape’s lush and fluid soundscape. Zike had a hand in steering the sparkling, guitar-focused production of the closing track “Meet You There.”
“With this project, I wanted to essentially explore all types of sounds and share my personal experiments,” Zike told Rated R&B via email. “Kind of like showing someone my diary or my weird laboratory of random test subjects.
It’s an eclectic body of work that taps into a lot of my musical influences while maintaining an R&B core, and I’m just excited to finally share it with the world. I wrote these songs based on personal experiences and I hope people can connect and vibe with it.”
Zike is no stranger to penning songs that resonate with listeners. She co-wrote the majority of June Diary’s moody anthem “Way Off,” which was released in 2020.
