Fresh off the heels on the season five finale of FOX’s The Masked Singer, JoJo shares a new track titled “Creature of Habit.”
Never being shy about expressing her feelings through music, the singer-songwriter uses this Rissi and Mano-produced song to describe a relationship she no longer wants to be based on familiarity.
JoJo’s dynamic voice is built around a stirring production, singing about wanting to be free of a codependent relationship, even if it’s through random spontaneity. However, her head has a voice causing her to be complacent and unable to get away from her partner.
In a press statement, JoJo said “Creature of Habit” was “about someone who feels addicted to the habit of a relationship, even though they’re not truly happy in it.” She added, “Having experienced my own cycles of habits allowed me to find aspects of myself in the lyrics.”
JoJo keeps the theme of the song in mind for the supporting video. Directed by Alfredo Flores, the video begins with the singer undergoing hypnosis from her love interest. It moves to different artistic setups where she and he act out the nature of their relationship. In solo scenes, JoJo is seen getting more in touch with her sensual side.
Regarding her recent experience on The Masked Singer as the Black Swan, JoJo shared, “It was fun becoming this character and singing for people every week with such amazing production around me. It allowed me to reclaim my passion for singing, writing, and even interpreting other people’s songs.”
Earlier this month, JoJo celebrated the first anniversary of her good to know album with a special concert. She appeared on Parson James’ “Dirty Laundry” track in late April and released “American Mood” in January.
