The loss of a loved one or the end of a relationship can leave you with an array of emotions such as sadness and loneliness. Grammy-winning multi-hyphenate Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd details this sentiment on his latest song, “The Day You Left.” It follows his heartfelt track “Two Commas” from 2019.
The somber tune intones his experience with loss. He sings about how he knew it was inevitable and had feelings of despair and indifference.
“The day you left / I’ve been full of sorrow mixed with happiness / The day you left / Surprisingly, I’ve been content with loneliness,” sang Poo Bear.
In the song’s supporting video, director Jay Weneta uses water as a way to convey grief. The video begins with him shedding a tear over a gold plated picture necklace. Poo Bear uses it as a backdrop to his pain, while diver Julie Gautier is submerged in it.
The necklace he’s holding at the video’s opening reappears as Gautier ascends to the tight at the top of the water. The pendant has additional significance, containing pictures of Poo Bear’s recently departed mother.
“The day you left is the perfect balance between pain and joy and consistent selfishness and selflessness,” shared Poo Bear in a statement about the new song.
Aside from releasing music, Poo Bear has a brand new record label, Bearthday Music, with Def Jam Records.
