Summer Walker and JT of City Girls are showing women everywhere how to shrug off deadweight in the video for “Ex For A Reason.”
The Lacey Duke-directed clip journeys back to March 2020, where Walker and two friends are stationed at a local gas station trying to decide their next move. Riding in an Oldsmobile 442 convertible with the top down, they make it JT’s crib where everything imaginable is going down: kitchen haircuts and tongue action in a beaded-curtain bedroom.
Like in a song’s artwork, JT is surrounded by baddies, including Walker, feeding off their City Girl energy as she spits her verse in a dresser mirror. The two starred artists slip into sexier fits, bussing down on a glass platform in another scene.
A kickback happens later that evening, packing the house with locals and strippers, along with cameos from Sean Garrett and the famed “hard drive” steering Walker’s current album campaign.
“Ex For A Reason” is the first taste of Walker’s forthcoming sophomore album, Still Over It, out November 5, via LVRN / Interscope Records. The LP arrives two years after her multi-platinum debut set Over It, which included the lead single “Playing Games,” now triple-platinum.
This year, Walker has been connected to different artists, including Shelley FKA DRAM for his self-titled second album (“All Pride Aside”) and Sam Smith for the Dear Evan Hansen (“You Will Be Found”) soundtrack.
