Raheem DeVaughn is all about paying it forward and putting his name on the line to support others.
Not even a year after collaborating with Detroit producer Apollo Brown and introducing him to the R&B community with the joint effort Lovesick, he pushes Bee Boy$oul to the forefront with Back 2 Love.
It’s the debut album of the Richmond, Virginia, native, who’s been releasing projects here and there since 2018. The footsteps to this LP were led by the remix of DeVaughn’s 2020 single “Mr. Midnight,” from his eighth album What A Time To Be In Love.
DeVaughn makes additional appearances, one of which is the title track featuring Eric Roberson and Dwele. In a statement, Boy$oul described the record as his “introduction to the world at large as producer and songwriter.”
Other guest stars include Wes Felton, The Hamiltones, Carmen Rodgers, Yahzarah St James, saxophonist Vandell Andrew, and more.
“When I listen to this record, it’s the first time in a long time I really love my craft,” said Boy$oul in a statement about Back 2 Love.
He continued, “It encapsulates my experiences before really becoming a professionally-minded musician, and then my experiences with the band as a professionally-minded musician.
A lot of the influences from all of the places that I’ve learned, things like church, were my earliest influence. Then jazz and being a hip-hop head….all of that came full-circle with what you hear on Back 2 Love.”
Not including songs from Back 2 Love, DeVaughn is rotating at R&B radio with “Can’t Nobody” featuring Keith Sweat. It crowned the two R&B gents a top 20 single.
After appearing with Sweat, DeVaughn sent over his vocals to Eric Roberson for the official remix of “Lessons.” Anthony Hamilton and Kevin Ross starred as well.
