On Sunday night, Mary J. Blige took center stage during the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show to perform two of her classics.
She opened her short and sweet set with her party anthem “Family Affair,” before closing with an emotional performance of “No More Drama.” Both songs appear on Blige’s 2001 album, No More Drama.
According to Samba TV, a global provider of omniscreen advertising and analytics, 29 million U.S. households tuned in to watch the halftime show, which featured Blige, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. The company also reports the halftime show viewership increased by 19% year-over-year.
Viewership wasn’t the only thing that saw an increase in activity. As expected, following her stellar performance, Blige saw an increase of streaming and digital sales activity.
According to Spotify, the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-produced “No More Drama” surged by nearly 520% in global streams. Meanwhile, “Family Affair,” produced by Dr. Dre, increased by more than 160%.
Blige’s new album, Good Morning Gorgeous, also benefited from her performance. At the time of this publishing, it’s resting at No. 1 on the iTunes Albums chart (all genres).
“No More Drama” and “Family Affair” also moved into the top 15 on the iTunes Songs chart. The latter track peaked at No. 2.
