Khalid’s new single “Skyline” arrives at the perfect time, with summer around the corner.
Over pulsating synths, helmed by Chrome Sparks, Khalid invites a love interest out for a night of fun in his GT-R Skyline. While they’re on the road, he can’t help but admire his partner as he compares their bonding experience to being high on LSD.
“All lights, all on you / City lights fall on you / Such a beautiful world / We’re so high, I’m with you / Hypnotized, I’m with you / Such a beautiful world,” he sings in the first verse.
Khalid describes “Skyline” as “a recharge and full of summer vibes.” He adds, “I hope it brings my fans joy and gets them through any dark times they may be going through.”
The vibrant video, co-directed by Levi Turner and Cody LaPlant, sees Khalid dancing in a grounded hot air balloon that takes off later in the video. The inside of the balloon’s envelope is reminiscent of being under a playground parachute that was popular in gym class.
“Skyline” is the official lead single to Khalid’s upcoming third album on Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records. His 2021 track “New Normal” was initially the lead single; however, plans changed, including the album release, originally slated for fall 2021.
Instead, Khalid decided to “[put] pop on on pause” and released an R&B-centric EP, Scenic Drive, featuring Alicia Keys, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye, 6LACK, Kiana Ledé and more.
“Skyline” is Khalid’s second song release of 2022. In March, he released a mellow R&B-pop track titled “Last Call.” Turner and LaPlant also directed its official video.
