Ella Mai has shared the video for her Roddy Ricch-assisted single “How,” as it continues to move up on the urban radio chart.
In the Colin Tilley-directed video, Mai plays a wronged woman who’s having to watch her unfaithful lover be overtly charming with other women. She evens the score with help from Roddy Ricch. The payback is to die for.
“How” is the current single from Mai’s latest album, Heart On My Sleeve. The follow-up to Mai’s Grammy-nominated self-titled album includes the smash singles “DFMU” and “Not Another Love Song.”
In June, the penultimate track claimed Mai the number one spot on both R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. Meanwhile, the latter track was certified gold ahead of Heart On My Sleeve‘s due date.
Around the same time Mai’s headlined the R&B charts, she performed “Keeps on Fallin” with Babyface at the 2022 BET Awards.
The song, which was released on June 17, is the first single from Babyface’s first Capitol Records album, Girls’ Night Out, out this October. “Keeps on Fallin” was co-produced by Babyface and Oscar and Grammy winner D’Mile.
Speaking of autumn, Mai will be on the road that time supporting Heart On My Sleeve. She joins Mary J. Blige’s headlining Good Morning Gorgeous Tour as a special guest. Queen Naija also will be an opening act for Blige’s U.S. trek that starts on Sept. 17 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Earlier this year, Mai gained four new certifications from the RIAA, two of which were for hit songs from her 2018 full-length: “Boo’d Up” (7x multi-platinum) and “Trip” (5x multi-platinum). Additionally, “Naked” went 2x multi-platinum and “1000 Hours” reached platinum.
