R&B duo dvsn (Daniel Daley and Nineteen85) has joined forces with R&B group Jagged Edge for their new single “What’s Up.” It was co-produced by Nineteen85, Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox.

“What’s Up” picks up where dvsn left off on their previous single “If I Get Caught.” Here, a lovesick Daley contemplates hitting up an ex who has moved on.

Daley sings, “How long it’s been? You ain’t even check up on me / How many nights in a row are you in the streets? / Guessin’ I’m the one to blame / ‘Cause my behavior changed / I should’ve just called you that night / I probably could’ve saved us from the fake love and the empty little link-ups.”

Jagged Edge’s background vocals on “What’s Up” take the song to another level — one that feels like an early 2000s R&B heartbreak ballad.

Speaking on “What’s Up,” dvsn explains, “This song was made by us alongside Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox at a time when we were looking for the perfect way to describe the moments and emotions leading up to that late night text you know you shouldn’t send to someone.”

As noted above, “What’s Up” is the follow-up to “If I Get Caught,” which was released in July. The song arrives with an accompanying video, which is a nod to classic R&B videos. (Yes, they are singing in the rain!)

Dvsn’s upcoming album will follow 2021’s A Muse In Her Feelings. “The theme of this whole album has kind of been like a new level of honesty and growth,” Daley explained to Rated R&B in an interview. “[‘If I Get Caught’] sets up the story that we are about to tell in a crazy way.” Dupri describes the album, which is undergoing finishing touches, as “an honest space for a man.” He continues, “It’s a record that [speaks] to the challenges of a man — and Daniel being that one in particular.”

Cox added, “We wanted to do something that would delve deeper into the ups and downs of being an artist in a relationship — and what men go through in relationships in general. There’s the part where you get your ego broken. There’s a part where you fall in love. There’s all these different elements.”
