Grammy-nominated singer Givēon has released a new song titled “Time.”
On the somber tune, which he co-wrote with Drake and Daniel Pemberton, Givēon reminisces about a past relationship. Although it didn’t last as long as he hoped, he will cherish the moments they shared together.
“I never knew / For only now / Can I truly see / How much that time with you / That time shaped me / So even though I was unaware,” Givēon sings.
“Time” is the lead single from the Amsterdam soundtrack, which releases Oct. 7 — the same day as the movie’s premiere.
“The depth and timeless feel of the record, as well as the incredible cast of talented actors starring in the movie immediately made me gravitate towards the film,” says Givēon. “I grew up listening and studying Frank Sinatra’s music, so I was excited to convey my admiration while channeling the feel of this film through that sound. Being a part of this incredible record has granted me the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone.”
Pemberton adds, “I’m thrilled to have worked on a song with Drake and Givēon for Amsterdam not only because they are great artists but also because we have created something that fully completes the musical journey of the film utilizing both the themes from the score as well as lyrics that speak to one of the central ideals behind the story. I am very excited for everyone to hear what we’ve done…”
Amsterdam is a mystery comedy set in the ’30s that follows three friends “who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.”
The movie stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Timothy Olyphant, Zoe Saldaña, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro.
Givēon is currently on his headlining Give Or Take Tour in support of his debut album, Give Or Take. The tour, which kicked off in late summer, will wrap up on Oct. 21 in Toronto, Canada. Ahead of that, he will play in Minneapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, Nashville, Washington, D.C., and more.
Give Or Take released on June 24 via Not So Fast/Epic Records.
“My debut album Give Or Take is a collection of reminiscences over the last few years of my life,” Givēon told Rated R&B. “Suddenly having to adapt to a world in which there are so many eyes watching and experiencing a wide spectrum of emotions at once naturally brought these songs to the surface.”
Give Or Take debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and No. 11 on the Billboard 200. The no-features album includes the singles “For Tonight” and “Lie Again.” The former song was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling more than 500,000 equivalent units.
