Rising singer LAYA has been making quite a mark this year with her unique visuals and sound. She continues this trend by releasing “Sailer Moon 2.0,” a new version of her acclaimed song “Sailor Moon.” It features a guest appearance from Baby Tate.
LAYA takes a different approach this time around compared to the song’s downtempo original. She flips the production, adding a house beat along with a new vocal cadence. Bringing Baby Tate into this remixed version was just the cherry on top of an already fiery remix.
“I’ve always been a fan of a good remix,” LAYA tells Rated R&B. “‘Sailor Moon 2.0’ was my opportunity to breathe new life into what is already one of my favorite records.”
She also explained why Baby Tate was the right choice to set this remix ablaze. “I reached out to Baby Tate because I knew she would deliver what the song needed not only with talent and skill but with an innate understanding of the material and aesthetic. It just made perfect sense,” she notes.
The original version of “Sailor Moon,” which was initially released in 2020, appears on LAYA’s Um, Hello EP that dropped in April.
Actors Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya recently shouted out the song in an interview promoting their new movie.
“I’m still living on the high of hearing Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya speak about ‘Sailor Moon’ in their interview for Nope,” LAYA tells Rated R&B. “It was surreal to watch but a pure delight, of course. It’s good to know that they have such great taste.”
As noted above, LAYA released Um, Hello this past spring. It includes a feature from rapper Fivio Foreign (“Bag”).
LAYA promoted the project on Alex Isley’s Marigold Tour, which wrapped up on Sept. 8 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Hopefully, we will be able to see her perform “Sailor Moon 2.0” as she embarks as a supporting act on Phabo’s How’s My Driving Tour. It kicks off Sept. 29 in Washington D.C.
The tour will stretch over 15 dates, stopping in cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, and Denver and reaching overseas for dates in London.
