Rising R&B group FLO is back with a new song titled “Losing You.”
The liberating track explores the satisfying feeling of leaving a no-good lover. “Losing you has givin’ me everything I need / I’m happy that you’re gone / For the first time I’m finally feeling strong,” Stella sings in the chorus.
“Losing You” arrives just in time for the new year — getting rid of the old to make room for the new.
Speaking on their new single, FLO says, “It’s fitting that ‘Losing You’ is being released this time of the year as it’s all about going through a loss but somehow being comforted by it. It reminds you of how content you are by yourself and finding that cheerful spirit during a tough time.”
“Losing You” is the follow-up to FLO’s song “Not My Job,” a bonus track they released in September for their reissued debut EP, The Lead. The project, executive produced by MNEK, was released July 8 via Island Records UK/Uptown Records/Republic Records.
The Lead includes the British girl group’s viral hit “Cardboard Box.” They performed an acoustic version of the song at the 2022 Soul Train Awards in November.
“I remember it being really easy to write ‘Cardboard Box,'” Jorja told Rated R&B in an interview. “It was one of our first sessions with MNEK, who is the most talented person in the world. We was just having a conversation — because usually in the beginning of sessions, you just have a chat about what’s going on in your life at that moment in time. I know it was a bit of a rough time for me.”
Renée added, “The just words came. It was like [creating] a happy breakup song. You know you’re going through a situation, but you still wanna feel good about it.”
Of The Lead, Stella explained, “It encapsulates us being together, being strong and getting through anything. I think that’s a good message we like to put out for the people who listen.”
Last month, FLO made history as the first group to win the BRIT Rising Star Award.
