Sevyn Streeter is paying it forward with “It’s a Man’s World,” a cover of James Brown‘s classic “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” the title track from his 1966 album with The Famous Flames.

Digging deep into a magic bag of soul, Streeter breathes life into this eternal classic with a fiery performance destined to send chills down one’s spine.

In an Instagram post, Streeter says she issued this remake to celebrate the Godfather of Soul, one of her biggest musical influences on what would have been his 90th birthday (May 3).

“It’s a Man’s World” is Streeter’s first solo song release of the year. She hasn’t released new music since last year’s “23,” co-produced by Needlz and Domgotbeats.

Streeter paired “23” with a music video directed by MdotforMayor on the release day.

“It was literally 100 degrees the day we shot this, but we still had a fuq’n ball doin it,” Streeter wrote in an Instagram caption.

Streeter’s last single came months after she reissued her 2021 album Druken Wordz Sober Thoughtz. The new version includes the original songs from the standard edition and five bonus tracks.

Chris Brown, Jeremih, Lucky Daye, Bia, A$AP Ferg, and Lavi$h appeared on Streeter’s sophomore album.

Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list.

Most recently, Streeter joined TRAETWOTHREE for “Watch It Grow,” lifted from his 2023 EP, Long Story Short. It’s her first collaboration since teaming up with Dixson for “Cherry Sorbet” and Babyface for “G Wagon” alongside Tkay Maidza.

On May 19, Streeter heads to Atlanta, Georgia, to tape and lend her vocal abilities to the eighth annual Black Music Honors.

She’s on the marquee alongside Robin Thicke, Tamar Braxton, Kenny Lattimore, 702, Lil’ Mo, Raheem DeVaughn, and more to salute its new batch of honorees.

Previously announced honorees include SWV (Urban Music Icon), Evelyn “Champagne” King (R&B Music Icon), Jeffrey Osborne (Legends Award), Missy Elliott (Music Innovator Icon) and The Hawkins Family (Gospel Music Icon).

The 2023 Black Music Honors will air Saturday, June 3, with national broadcast syndication from June 10 – July 2. It will also air on Bounce TV on June 19.
